The State Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of State Parks has closed Polihale State Park on the Westside and the Kalalau Trail on the North Shore because of severe weather and dangerous conditions, according to a press release.
Heavy rainfall has made the access road to Polihale and use of the park facilities hazardous due to flooding. Heavy rainfall has also made the Kalalau Trail very slippery and dangerous.
Earlier this week, DLNR Division of State Parks officials suspended the issuance of camping permits for all stat park facilities on Kaua’i.
“We are asking members of the public to refrain from entering Polihale and the Kalalau Trail for their own safety,” said Peter Young, DLNR chairman.
“Normal use of these facilities and issuing of permits can resume after the rains subside and conditions stabilize.”
