Tennis on the Garden Isle has been growing rapidly, and recently, a group of Kaua’i teens shared the high caliber of play with the rest of the state.
Kaua’i’s 2.5 team in the 18-year-old age group division, took home top honors at the 2005 USA Team Tennis Winter Sectional Championships at Central O’ahu Regional Park.
Team members include Reyn Balocan, Hunter Coberly, Sam Dunham, Sterling Inouye, Dasha Khalyavina, Sarah Kukino, Tiffany Lum, and Chelsea Yamase. Joy and Jordan Kukino coached the squad.
Other Kaua’i teams at the event were the 18-year-old 4.0 division team, who finished in fourth place (James Odan, Lizzy Schiller, Cassady Sirois, Lezlie Tao, Justin Vea, and Mikaiah Vea. They were coached by James Hasinyager. Also finishing in fourth place was the 14-year-old 2.5 division team of Julie Blachowiak, Logan Domingo, Madison Duarte, Kevin Killerman, Manus Kshirsagar, Joshua Quinlan, Coby Smith, and Dylan Wehrly. James Hasinyager also coached this team.
The team of Jerik Centeno, Lani Rae Green, Croix Koenig, Lance Matsumoto, Kaylie Nakamura, Shaylee Orial, Micah Quinlan, and Dessa Rentrop took seventh place in the 12-year-old 2.5 contest. Darlene Joseph and Tammie Quinlan coached the squad.
