Employees at Pono Kai Resort and the IVC Tour Desk at the Kapa‘a resort have joined forces to donate money to cover medical expenses incurred by Solidad Ofamin, who was struck by a truck in a hit-and-run accident on Super Bowl Sunday.
Ofamin’s niece, Jocelyn Glo-vasa, works at the resort.
“We started a collection to assist in her mounting medical expenses not covered by insurance,” said Peter Sit, resort general manager.
Recently, resort representatives, including her niece, Sit and others, presented Ofamin with $600, with Sit indicating he hopes the gesture will “encourage other organizations to assist in her needs.”
Ofamin suffered numerous injuries when a truck struck her near her Kawaihau Road home in Kapa‘a, and the driver fled the scene.
Kaua‘i Police Department officers continue to investigate the case, and no arrests have been made.
