KALAHEO — Rea Accorda and Cheyenne Duarte combined for 18 points Wednesday as the Westside Hornets controlled Lihu’e (Hanano) 25-18 in the first of three games played Wednesday.
The county’s 12 and Under girls basketball league was supposed to have ended with Monday’s games, but due to rainouts and conflicts with officials’ schedules, several of the teams concluded their season Saturday.
Accorda tolerated intensive Lihu’e defensive pressure to lead the Westside girls with 14 points with Duarte finishing with 4 points.
Sierra Mayer finished with 5 points and got help from Kiara Chong’s 4 points as Island Heat found the key to the hoop cover 16-6 over Island School in the second contest of the night.
Hayley Uliana and Megan Chock accounted with the Island School scoring with 4 and 2 points respectively.
In the finale, Gee’s Angels have one more game to play against the Hornets, but kept their undefeated streak alive as Mahea Hanie-Grace came alive in the second half to finish with 11 points in their 39-9 showing over Wailua.
Lauren Claypoole combined with Maile Dreier to effectively bottle Wailua’s Kaira Kupihea throughout the night.
Claypoole finished with 10 points in the win, many of her shots coming from putbacks and second efforts.
Makamae Higa topped the Wailua scoring with 5 points. Tiore Daligcon and Kupihea were limited to a pair each.
