  • Kaua’i papaya farmers shipped 3,000 pounds of fruit off the

    island for consumption elsewhere in the state, though the total

    fresh harvest was down to 25,000 pounds on Kaua’i last month,

    compared to 30,000 pounds in January of last year, according to

    statistics from the state Department of Agriculture. The farm price

    of fresh papaya statewide was 34 cents per pound last month, down

    from 38 cents per pound in December.
