Dean and Lei Nakayama (she said Malasada Tuesday is coming up, Feb. 28!) of Kauai Bakery & Cinnamon were busy with Valentine’s Day! Dean said the Camper missed the boat, and should’ve come on Monday when things were overflowing. But, in spite of all the business, he still had time to take care of Na Kupuna Council’s Valentine Dance. Here’s a thought, since there are so many other independent senior-care centers, how about everybody getting together to do one big event? Hats off to Bernard Carvalho and his Offices of Community Assistance Agency on Elderly Affairs staff members for doing such a great job with the annual event! DG the Clown was not The Balloon Man, but did take some time to create a balloon hat for Melanie Okamoto and Pat Viernes, as well as some of the other county staff members, there.
It’s been a busy week for Beth Cuizon, who piloted the Kaulupono Girls (Paige Connelly had a great game) in the county’s 12-and-under age group girls’ basketball league. Assistant coach Erin Connelly came running in during the middle of the game, straight from soccer, spent some time on the bench, and did a quick change before settling in to enjoy the girls’ win. Hats off, too, to coach Cecil Gee for the Angels’ undefeated record to date. Congratulations to the Angels for being accepted to the Maui Classic tournament this summer, too! OK, it’s off to check out the Kauai Soccer Association soccer action at Vidinha Stadium’s north fields. Coaches Karl Ubongen and Kevin Gusman were both checking out the North Vidinha fields earlier this week.
