Yacht club offers free talks
Leader of the Nawiliwili Yacht Club said in a press release they are beginning a regular series of free talks they think will be of interest to boaters, yachtsmen and others.
The first in a series of NYC Enrichment Series talks is Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the NYC clubhouse in the Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor.
Vice Commodore Mel Wills talks about the racing rules of sailing, covering both the basics and the subtle points, including the changes to the 2005-08 rules.
For information on this and future presentations and other NYC activities, call Rear Commodore Dick Olsen at 822-5092, or visit the Web at www.nawiliwiliyachtclub.org.
Orchid society meeting on
Members of the Garden Island Orchid Society meet today at 7 p.m. at the United Church of Christ in Hanapepe.
The plant doctor will be on duty from 6:30 p.m., to check out orchids, club leaders said in a press release.
Talk on Kapa‘a traffic set
State Department of Transportation Highways Division officials, together with those from the County of Kaua‘i and Federal Highway Administration, are planning improvements to Kuhio Highway in the Wailua corridor, they said in a press release.
These improvements include the addition of a fourth lane across the Wailua River, and highway widening from the river to the Kapa‘a bypass road.
Both projects are intended to provide short-term relief to worsening traffic conditions.
An initial public information and scoping meeting will be held on Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Kapa‘a Middle School cafeteria.
All members of the community are welcome to attend and learn more about the projects.
For more information, call consultant Glenn Kimura, 1-808-944-8848.
