KIF water sports titles on the line, Saturday

By Duane Shimogawa Jr. – The Garden Island

Take your pick on Saturday. It’s either KIF canoe paddling or swimming.

Both sports kick off crucial races at 10 a.m.

The prep paddlers finish off their second to last event at Wailua River and the swimmers will be in full force at the Kaua’i High School swimming pool in KIF championship competition.

The HHSAA State Swimming Championships will be held on the Big Island from February 24-25.

In the meantime, the HHSAA State Canoe Paddling Championships head to Keehi Lagoon (O’ahu) on March 3.

On the horizon is the KIF cheerleading championship on February 25 at Kaua’i High School’s gym (Raiderdome), beginning at 12 noon.

Tickets will be sold for the event, so contact an athletic director from one of the schools for more information.

The state cheerleading competition will be held at the Stan Sheriff Center on March 12.

KIF tennis swings into action, starting Feb. 18, with Kaua’i battling Kula at the Hanalei Bay Resort Courts and Island facing off against Waimea at the Kiahuna Tennis Courts. Both matches commence at 12 noon.
