KIF water sports titles on the line, Saturday

Take your pick on Saturday. It’s either KIF canoe paddling or swimming.
Both sports kick off crucial races at 10 a.m.
The prep paddlers finish off their second to last event at Wailua River and the swimmers will be in full force at the Kaua’i High School swimming pool in KIF championship competition.
The HHSAA State Swimming Championships will be held on the Big Island from February 24-25.
In the meantime, the HHSAA State Canoe Paddling Championships head to Keehi Lagoon (O’ahu) on March 3.
On the horizon is the KIF cheerleading championship on February 25 at Kaua’i High School’s gym (Raiderdome), beginning at 12 noon.
Tickets will be sold for the event, so contact an athletic director from one of the schools for more information.
The state cheerleading competition will be held at the Stan Sheriff Center on March 12.
KIF tennis swings into action, starting Feb. 18, with Kaua’i battling Kula at the Hanalei Bay Resort Courts and Island facing off against Waimea at the Kiahuna Tennis Courts. Both matches commence at 12 noon.
Lucas swam in different event
In the Jan. 25 KIF swimming photo, it was incorrectly stated that Kapa’a’s Pauline Lucas finished first in the 500 free. Instead she finished second in the 100 free.
Kula’s Alanna Reynolds took the 500 free win.
Paintball tournament sparks up Feb. 25
There will be a 3-Man paintball tournament on Saturday, Feb 25 at 8:30 (registration).
The games will begin at 9:30 a.m.
This will be a fun tournament for all players with little or no tournament experience. Call Tim for registration forms or more info. at 652-9808 or the Aloha Church at 241-7177. Equipment rentals are available, so call Scott at 645-0173.
Early Registration fee: (must be received by Sat. Feb. 11) $5.00 per person. $10.00 per person (after Feb. 11).
Final registration deadline is February 22.
Location: Aloha Paintball Field (across the street from Lihu’e Taco Bell).
Namolokama Canoe Club gears up for season
Namolokama O’Hanalei Canoe Club is starting their 2006 paddling season.
All levels of paddlers are encouraged to join in the fun. Women’s practice will commence on February 13 at 5 p.m.
Men’s practice will commence on Thursday, February 16 at 5 p.m. The club is located to the right of the Hanalei Boat Ramp. Any questions, contact Gene at 635-6009.
Kekaha youth baseball registration
Kekaha Youth Baseball Organization will be having registration for mustang, bronco and pony divisions for 2006 on Monday, February 9 and Thurs. Feb. 12 from 4:30 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Kekaha Ballpark.
