County of Kaua‘i officials in a press release announced the scheduling of the annual household hazardous-waste collection events, which are scheduled in four locations during the last weekend in February.
The events are for residents only. Waste from commercial sources will not be accepted. Residents are invited to bring in unwanted hazardous products from their homes, garages, yards or hobby areas, free of charge, for safe disposal.
Acceptable items include aerosols, batteries, gasoline, pesticides, solvents, oil-based paints, and other materials.
Collection events are scheduled for Feb. 25 at the Hanalei and Kapa‘a Transfer Stations, and Feb. 26 at the Lihu‘e and Hanapepe Transfer Stations. Collection times are from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Members of the public are reminded to bring their recyclables to any of the eight green Kaua‘i Recycles drop bins.
Recycling drop bins have separate receptacles for corrugated cardboard, newspaper, aluminum, plastic #1, plastic #2, glass, and junk mail (including white paper, colored paper, window envelopes, magazines, glossy ads, phone books, and food boxes).
Kaua‘i Recycles drop bins are located at the Hanalei Transfer Station, Kojima Store in Kapa‘a, Kmart parking lot in Lihu‘e, Brennecke’s Beach Broiler parking lot in Po‘ipu, Eleele Shopping Center, behind the Lawa‘i post office, Waimea Canyon Park, and the Kekaha Landfill.
