Rookies take two in senior softball action

K-Makule 7, Rookies 8

For K-Makule: Jerry Albarado and Danny Smith went 2 for 4, Gordon Arakaki went 3 for 4 plus two RBI’s, Guy Ruiz went 2 for 3 plus 3 RBI’s, and Kenneth Tamashiro earned a single, homerun, plus three RBI’s.

For the Rookies: Wally Sonoda went 2 for 3, Hank Nishikawa went 2 for 4, Walter Souza and Stan Dela Cruz ter went 3 for 4 with Dela Cruz earning 4 RBI’s and a home run.

Kuku’s Aces 1, Rookies 20

For the Aces: Ale Lomosad, Junior Ruiz, Ben Pescador, Gordon Doo, Ernie Dela Cruz, and John Ochoco all went 1 for 2 in a five inning TKO game.

For the Rookies: Ray Espino and Mike Folster went 2 for 2, plus one homerun for Folster, Stan Dela Cruz and Pat Cassier went 2 for 3, Steve Lizama went 3 for 3, and Walter Souza went 3 for 4.

Kawaihau 4, Lihu’e A’s 16

For Kawaihau: George Fernandes, Sherwood Iida and Paul Awazu went 2 for 3, Ernest Koerte and Paul Gusman went 3 for 3.

For Lihu’e A’s: Ismo Yoshishige, Ed Bales, and Randy Tomlinson went 2 for 3, with Yoshishige credited with a homerun and Tomlinson credited with 7 RBI’s.

West Kaua’i 8, East Kaua’i 10

For West Kaua’i: John Moniz went 2 for 2, Pat Pavao went 2 for 4, and Bob Merkle went 3 for 4 and also earned 3 RBI’s.

For East Kaua’i: Dickie Koerte went 2 for 2, Donald Boro and Ronnie Holt went 2 for 3, and Ned Nightowl went 3 for 3.

Play of the day: Play of the day award goes to Ned Nightowl of East Kaua’i, who made a diving rollover ball-stopping play with a back-handed flip to first, taking out Maxie Moreno at first base.
