The HHSAA/Data House Division II Softball Championships begin today, but the KIF champion Red Raider (11-1) squad will be in the stands witnessing the action, instead of battling out in the tournament’s opening round.
That’s because Kaua’i earned a third seed, which gives them an automatic entry into the quarterfinals.
The Red Raiders play the winner of the Sacred Hearts/Moloka’i contest, tomorrow at 7 p.m. The game test, will be broadcast live on KONG AM570 with “Anahola” Joe.
This is the 30th annual Hawai’i high school softball state championships, which run through Feb. 4 at the University of Hawai’i Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium (division I) and the Central O’ahu Regional Park.
Pac-Five (#1), Kalaheo (#2), Kaua’i (#3), and Kamehameha-Maui (#4) hold down the top four seeds in the division II state tournament.
This is the third year for the newly formed division II championships.
University (2004) and Saint Francis (2005) won the previous two division II titles.
