Kapa’a head basketball coach Philip Baclayon, his staff, and his players have turned around the Warrior program.
After three seasons with just one win, Kapa’a claimed three wins this season alone.
Friday night’s victory against the Red Raiders also moved them into first-place in the second round KIF basketball standings. Kapa’a now controls its own destiny and can force a one-game playoff for the overall title with Waimea, if they continue to surge ahead.
The Warriors are led by Nate Beralas, who seems to put up his biggest numbers during crunch time, as seen in Friday’s over-time session with Kaua’i.
The senior ran off seven points in the extra period to lead the Warriors.
Waimea, the first round champs, play Kaua’i on Tuesday at the Raiderdome.
A loss by either team would all but leave them out in the cold, as far as the second round goes.
