James “Maikai” Kaauwai
James “Maikai” Kaauwai of Honolulu, O’ahu, died Jan. 20, 2006, at Tripler Army Medical Center at the age of 66.
Born Dec. 3, 1938, in Lihu’e, he was the owner of Jimmy’s Appliance Service, a tour driver with Greyhound and also served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by three daughters: Kuuipo (Derek) Kaauwai-George of Okinawa, Pua (John) Kaauwai, and Jessica Yaple of O’ahu; six grandchildren: Kai Robinson, Derrin and Derek George, William, Robert and James Treul. He is also survived by three brothers: John (Barbara) Kaauwai of Anahola, William Kaauwai of Wailua and Bert (Blaze Anne) Kaauwai of Kapa’a; five sisters: Elizabeth Costa of California, Henrietta (Robert) Gonsalves of Wailua, Maureen (John) Seagrove of Arizona, Annette Kaauwai of Kapa’a, and Linda (Melvin) Iwamoto of Honolulu; two sisters-in-law, Delores Kaauwai of Anahola and Alicia Kaauwai of Kapa’a; two aunts: Grace Contrades of Mexico and Juanita Thomas of Honolulu; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Receiving of family and friends will be at the Kapa’a First Hawaiian Church on Saturday, Jan. 28, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Services will begin at 11 a.m. with Kahu Nani Hill. Cremation to follow. Casual aloha attire is suggested and the family requests leis only.
