Southern-raised Bill Miller is the new rector for the St. Michael & All Angels’ Episcopal Church in Lihu‘e, it was announced at the church’s annual meeting last week.
Miller, who has been on island for a couple of weeks, will officially move to Kaua‘i next month.
He addressed members of his congregation last week, saying he was “humbled, hopeful and excited” to be on Kaua‘i.
According to a press release sent from church leaders, Miller was raised in a fundamentalist church in Texas, attended a Presbyterian seminary in Chicago, studied in Jerusalem, and eventually became an Episcopal priest in Austin, Texas.
He comes to Kaua‘i from the Trinity Church in Houston.
In a statement, Miller said that he wanted future visitors of Kaua‘i to have three things on their “must-do” list: Na Pali Coast, Waimea Canyon, and worship at the St. Michael & All Angels’ Church.
