Lunchtime at the mall on a Friday is good for catching up with people, especially if the wind is blowing. Bob and Lenore Klass were doing lunch, as were members of the Dennis Higashi ‘ohana, and coach Brian Inouye took advantage of a teacher work day to have lunch with some of his basketball players.
Donna Schulze was searching for someone to run with ‘Iniki Runner dog during the East Kauai Y’s Men Club/YMCA 23rd annual Youth Fun Run, and eventually someone stepped forward. Hats off to Tom Tannery, Bev Olsen, and all members, for another successful event. Cathy Shanks was on hand for the event, as was Waimea coach and runner Bobby Menks. Following that run, it was Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation paddling in the Wailua River, where Edmund Acoba was on hand to watch the action, and both Sam and Manny Henriques were inaugurating a new leash for son Alex.
Mahalo to Malcolm Ikeda for the opportunity to sample some of those ono apple li hing mui pieces at the soccer games. Coach Dan Agan’s favorite is the rice pudding, and was nice to see Wanda Shibata, who arrived after taking care of all of husband Myles Shibata’s bananas.
Melanie Kalauawa was between the dips in the chocolate fountain brought over by Nicole Nonaka of the Kaua‘i Marriott Resort & Beach Club for the Eleele School Career Day, but had time to remind people of the Kalaheo Missionary Church’s rummage sale that opens its doors at 8 a.m. Saturday. Is there going to be punch?
