Happy Birthday, Clesson Lee! Clesson was partying, so couldn’t make the Kaua‘i High home opener for Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation boys’ basketball. And since he was involved in his Boy Scout Eagle project, he wasn’t even able to try out. But his heart was still with the boys! Congratulations to “coach” Harvette Acosta and the Menehune cheerleaders on their third-place finish on O‘ahu. Her husband is one of four Hawaii Army National Guard soldiers who will be one of the last to leave Iraq.
Was nice to see Linda Lopez on the floor one more time Tuesday night, and Chris Acoba had his junior-varsity Menehune acting like gentlemen during the varsity game. And, yes, it was cold at the games. Cyndi Ayonon had her “Oregon” jacket out at the soccer games, and of course it’s always nice to be able to chat with husband Bobby Ayonon, and Manny Henriques and Sam Henriques have this baby-sitting- during-the-games thing down pat. “Old McDonald” never sounded so good.
At Isenberg Field (congratulations to coach Jacqui Inouye and her Red Raiders on the KIF title!), Art Oketani had the best vantage point. Puakea Grille is a great place for meetings, as Dickie Chang was hosting one of his, and you can’t have lunch without running into Dan Kunimoto (sorry, lemon chicken sold out). But, more and more people are discovering the place. Brad Nagano and Shirley Tani were only two of the many lunch-goers there. Now, if you’re there on Saturday, listen for the Taiko Kauai group, which will be performing for the Regency at Puakea residents around lunchtime.
OK, ‘nuff said. Time to visit Edee Bandmann and the parade!
