Once again this season, it’s a two-team race for the KIF softball title, with the same two squads battling for the league’s only state berth.
Kaua’i (2-1), sits in second-place just one game behind Waimea (4-0) in the loss column.
Meanwhile, Kapa’a (0-5) is still fighting for that elusive first victory of the 2005-06 season.
Today at 5:30 p.m., the Red Raiders and Warriors face off at Kapa’a Ballpark in a single-game matchup.
A loss by Kaua’i would hand the Menehune the first-round KIF title. However, a win would help the Red Raiders keep pace with Waimea.
The first-round finale, which pits the two top contenders, happens this Saturday at Isenberg Field.
The doubleheader, which starts at 10 a.m., is for all the apples in the bucket.
