It’s still early in the 2005-06 KIF softball season, but the two top teams (Kaua’i and Waimea) battle for the top spot today at Waimea Canyon Field, starting at 5:30 p.m.
The Red Raiders (2-0) are coming into the big contest with two straight wins over Kapa’a on Saturday (6-0, 10-0) at Isenberg Field.
Meanwhile, the Menehune (1-0) slammed Kapa’a, 18-7 in the KIF softball opener at Kapa’a Ballpark on Nov. 30.
Both teams have the pitching and hitting to take them to the top, but according to both coaches, the team that makes the least mistakes will win the KIF title.
After tonight’s contest, there will be only one undefeated team left in the KIF softball standings.
Waimea hosts Kapa’a (0-3) on Saturday in doubleheader action, starting at 2 p.m.
Manintin not injured
Saturday’s sports section noted that Kaua’i’s Ku’ulei Manintin was nursing an injury. However, she was able to make the start at centerfield for the Red Raiders in their sweep of Kapa’a.
