Tornados fall short at Mililani

The Lihu’e Tornados, with a 3-1 record following play on Saturday, matched up against Real HFC 97B Sunday for the championship of the U10B division at the 12th annual Mililani 7-A-Side tournament.
However, entering the field the Tornados’ only loss came at the hands of Real HFC 97B, 2-1 on Saturday, and in the championship matchup, Real HFC 97B shut down the Tornados, 2-0 for the title.
Only two other Kaua’i teams were in action on the final day of the tournament, both on the losing end of the field as Ha’aheo fell to Leahi SC ’95 Premier Stingrays, 4-0, and the Tunda Girls dropping to the HSC Bulls 92G, 4-1.
Hanapepe baseball applications taken today
Youngsters between the ages of 5 through 9 are welcomed to the Hanapepe Youth Baseball Association (HYBA) signups today.
The HYBA is currently accepting applications for the Shetland and Pinto divisions as well as for the Mustang, Bronco, and Pony divisions.
Parents are reminded that they need to bring two copies of the child’s birth certificate and two copies of a current medical insurance card.
Applications will be available today at the Hanapepe Recreation Center patio from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
Applications are also being accepted for coaches as well as HYBA Board members.

LBL Pinto applications accepted next week
The Lihu’e Baseball League (LBL) will be accepting player applications for its 2006 Pinto season starting Monday, Dec. 5, and continuing through Friday, Dec. 9, from 5 to 6 p.m.
Application forms are available at the portable building adjacent to the LBL field across from the convention hall, or may be downloaded from the LBL Web site at www.lihuebaseball.org.
All eligible Pinto players must be ages 7, 8, or 9 years old in the calendar year 2006.
Parents must furnish two copies of their child’s birth certificate and two copies of their medical insurance card.
The registration fee is $55 for each applicant and covers the cost of a team shirt, baseball cap, and Pony fees.
Tryouts for the LBL Pinto Division will be held on Sunday, Dec. 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Lihu’e Baseball field.
Players are asked to report to the portable building at 12:30 p.m. to preregister and pick up their name tags. Each applicant should have a glove and rubber cleats.

Gunter, Dawson tops at Kukuiolono
Hans Gunter (70-66) was tops in the “A Flight” at the Kukuiolono Golf Club tournament Nov. 19. Jim Dawson (87-65) topped the “B Flight” in that tourney that saw Paul Ragasa capture “closest to the hole” award at the 6th hole.
Gary Hall was closest at Hole No. 8, Dean Almeida came close at Hole No. 15, and Mike Niau was closest at Hole No. 17.
