Bicyclist found dead in Wailua

An unidentified male was found dead Sunday night in Wailua, behind a guardrail along Kuhio Highway, according to county sources.

Kaua’i Police Department dispatch operators received a call at around 7 p.m. about an old, mangled, maroon bike that was propped up against a guardrail in the vicinity, a county spokesperson said.

When police officers went to check out the report, they discovered the body behind a guardrail between mile markers 4 and 5.

Although the call was made on Sunday night, KPD officers believe that the incident actually occurred the day before, between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., according to county sources.

The deceased was not carrying any form of identification, so his identity is not known at this time. He is described as being between 50 to 60 years old, six feet tall, and weighing around 200 pounds.

An investigation into the incident is being conducted, and police are seeking information about the crash and the victim.

If anyone has information on this incident, he or she is asked to please call Sgt. Robert Gausepohl at 241-1611, Officer James Miller at 241-1615, or Crime Stoppers at 241-1887.
