Rental cars should be hybrids
For almost the last two weeks, I visited the island of Kaua’i. Although I was not expecting that much rain, I still managed to thoroughly enjoy my first visit to the state of Hawai’i. During that time I read discussions of keeping Kaua’i “green”. I live in San Antonio and drive a Honda Civic Hybrid sedan. It was my best decision about 15 months ago.
I think I have a solution to all of Hawai’i’s problem with auto emissions and use of gasoline. There must be, on Kaua’i, more rental vehicles than owned vehicles.
If the island government only allowed hybrid vehicles to be rented on the island, how quick the turnaround would be. I believe that almost NO car renters are interested in performance, as opposed to gas mileage. The possible exception is convertibles … but they are only for looks anyway, and an enterprising Chrysler would probably find a way to produce that car in a hybrid version if needed.
