A 55-year-old male visitor from Missouri apparently drowned Thursday morning at Queen’s Bath at Princeville, a county spokesperson said. According to officials with the Kaua’i Fire Department, the victim and his wife were walking near Queen’s Bath when a large wave knocked them onto a ledge.
The wife remained on the ledge, while the victim, who has not yet been identified, was pulled into the ocean.
Lifeguards with the KFD Ocean Safety Bureau arrived on the scene on a personal water craft, and took the victim to Black Pot Beach Park, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by emergency medical personnel.
The woman was rescued by firefighters from the Princeville fire station.
She was taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital in an American Medical Response ambulance, and treated for injuries. The extent of her injuries was not known on Thursday afternoon.
If doctors conducting an autopsy determine the man died by drowning, he would be Kaua’i’s sixth ocean-drowning victim this year.
