County officials yesterday identified as David Clinton Sturkie of Hanalei as the man who died in a single-vehicle accident on Kuhio Highway in Hanalei early Thursday morning.
Sturkie, 53, was the sole occupant of a Nissan sport-utility vehicle which crashed into the bridge over the Waipa Stream on the highway, near the 4-mile marker.
He was heading south at the time of the accident.
He died at the scene from injuries sustained during the crash, county officials said. Speed may have been a factor, according to Kaua‘i Police Department investigators.
Sturkie is the third person to die in traffic accidents on Kaua‘i this year.
