Meantime, gasoline prices rose another six cents a gallon on the Garden Island last week, according to gas-price surveyor Martin Rice.
This follows the nine-cent increase Rice reported at the end of last week.
According to Rice, who is also chairman of the Kauai Democratic Party, the average price of regular unleaded stood at $3 ($2.999) a gallon for regular, $3.20 a gallon for premium, and $3.24 for diesel.
According to figures released Wednesday by members of the state Public Utilities Commission in anticipation of the law’s implementation this week, the price of gasoline on Kaua‘i was $2.80. This does not include the mark-up at the pump. The gas cap applies to wholesale gasoline distributors only.
“Perhaps the PUC is going to have to look at price fixing in the Mainland markets that drive the wholesale price of gasoline here,” Rice ventured.
According to Rice’s Aug. 25 survey of all 20 Kaua‘i gas stations, the least-expensive, regular-unleaded gasoline could be found at the following stations: $2.959 at Aloha Fuels, Kapahi; $2.969 at Hanama‘ulu Shell; and $2.979 at the Shell stations in Wailua and Puhi, and the Kalaheo Union 76.
The best prices for premium as of Aug. 26 were $3.159 at Aloha Fuels, Kapahi, and $3.179 at the Shell stations in Wailua, Puhi and Hanama‘ulu, and the Kalaheo 76.
The lowest diesel prices are $3.159 at Aloha Fuels, Kapahi, and $3.189 at Kalaheo Chevron, Rice reported.
According to Hawaii-GasPrices.com, the highest price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline in Hawai‘i was $3.17 at a Chevron Station in Kihei, Maui.
The highest price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline on Kaua‘i was $3.05 at the Chevron in Princeville, while premium was selling for $3.259 a gallon.
The average retail prices of regular unleaded in Honolulu on Thursday stood at $2.764, a record high, according to officials with the American Automobile Association.
The average statewide price of a gallon of regular unleaded on Thursday was a record $2.865.
