$8 million bonus
A former Hawaiian Airlines trustee wants an $8 million bonus for getting the company out of bankruptcy and into solvency. The airline’s new owners and its union representatives didn’t react kindly to the request, which comes after the trustee received over $1 million in salary and expenses spread over the two years he worked on the project.
Companies worth billions of dollars that have been “saved” by trustees or consultants have paid out equal or bigger sums.
But this time it seems the request is for too much, and comes at a bad time for Hawaiian Air. With jet fuel prices rising almost daily, along with gasoline prices, the company could be in the danger zone again.
Hawaiian Air workers have also made concessions to their employer to help keep their jobs afloat.
It’s time all concerned take this attitude. The Hawaiian Islands needs two competitive major interisland airlines. While it is reasonable that a bonus be paid out for a job well done, $8 million is too much.
