Waimea pool
I am writing this letter in hopes that it will make somewhere in your newspaper. Here is the issue I want to discuss…the Waimea Public pool has been closed nearly all summer. Since I currently work near the area I can tell you personally that I have not seen one person/company make their way into the Waimea pool for repairs.
The subject I wish for you to discuss is simply that it is a shame the Waimea Pool has been broken all summer. Children on the Westside of Kaua‘i are unable to go to the pool at their leisure as opposed to children on the Eastside of the island.
Children from Mana all the way to ‘Ele‘ele have nowhere to swim safely, besides the beach. I have often seen how the Westside of Kaua‘i is normally neglected when it comes to repairing what little resources we have to offer the public.
For instance Polihale just recently reopened to the public, when it too has been closed nearly all summer. It is simply unfair and I find that I am not the only individual who feels that the government is being unjust.
Just because we do not voice our complaints as often as others in the Kaua‘i community does not mean the government can neglect us. It is a shame considering that the Kekaha pool was ruined after Hurricane ‘Iniki and never repaired as well, instead the land was sold leaving the Waimea pool as the only public pool on the Westside of Kaua‘i. Also it is disappointing to hear my children complain about the heat, which I might add has been unbearable during the entire summer especially on the already hot and unbearable West side. Since the Westside of the island is so horribly hot all the time, having the pool be opened is practically a necessity. Please see that this issue is in some way discussed and help us reopen a pool that is so desperately needed. Thank you.
