It’s not as if the annual Koloa Plantation Days Rodeo needs more glitz and glamour, but with the help of the Kaua‘i All Girls Rodeo Association, the event is about to get kicked up another notch, as Emeril Lagasse would say!
The girls will present a fast-paced Grand Entry Drill Team routine on Sunday, July 31, at the Sixth Annual Koloa Plantation Days Rodeo.
The rodeo starts at noon and everyone is invited to spend the day enjoying the paniolo competition at the beautiful CJM Country Stables, overlooking the ocean down Po‘ipu Road, about a mile past the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa.
There will be lots of food booths featuring local favorites, including Joe’s on the Green, Dally-Up Take-Out, Northshore Subway, Palama Snack Wagon, Slush Puppies, and Island Bubbles and Catering.
Logo t-shirts will be on sale by the All-Girls Rodeo and Cindy Jimenez will have an original crafts booth to showcase all of her wonderful gifts.
Admission is just $1 per person and goes to benefit Kaua‘i’s YMCA. The rodeo is just one of Kaua‘i’s and the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority’s special events.
Adding to the excitement this year will be a group of brave-hearted bullriders competing for prizes and awards, including a bull rope donated by Darby McMartin of Victoria, Australia. Aiwohi Designs of Maui will present the best dressed horse and cowgirl with a custom made western shirt. For more information, contact CJM Country Stables at 742-6096.
