Margy Parker began her career at the Poipu Beach Resort Association in 1982, with the support of four area hotels.
This summer she is completing her tour of duty at Po‘ipu.
Her 23 years of marketing the South Shore visitor destination were celebrated Thursday at a party held in her honor at the Sheraton Kauai, one of the hotels that funded the resort association at its launch.
When asked what her major accomplishments were at Po‘ipu Beach, Parker said, “stewardship of the destination and innovation in marketing it.”
Parker plans to attend graduate school at the University of Oregon in Eugene and work on a graduate degree in communication. She may be back on Kaua‘i to work on her thesis, she told The Garden Island at the party. Jody Kono Kjeldsen is set to become the new head of the organization in early August.
