LIHU‘E — “They don’t play each other in the Bronco Regionals, so it should be okay,” said Kirk Correa, one of the parents of the West Kaua‘i Bronco all stars.
Correa was one of the umpires helping at the Friday scrimmage game being played at the Lihu‘e County Park.
That resulted in a pair of scrimmage games between the West Kaua‘i and the Lihu‘e Baseball League Bronco all stars where the players and coaches could hone their skills as well as get familiarized with the playing fields.
On Wednesday, the LBL squad travelled to meet West Kaua‘i at the Waimea Canyon Park where the Regional tournament will kick off on Wednesday, July 13, and continue until Thursday, July 14.
The scrimmage series continued on Friday afternoon when West Kaua‘i travelled to the Lihu‘e County Park where the final three days of the tournament will be played starting Friday, July 15 and concluding on Sunday, July 17.
Game schedules are in the works and a tournament schedule will become available following the preliminary coaches meeting on Tuesday, July 12 at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Admission to the tournament is free, and there are ample venues for spectators to support the tournament and the Bronco baseball program.
Some of the parents from the West Kaua‘i team noted that Waimea Canyon Park is looking really good, and Teddy Arroyo has done a great job priming the park for the tournament.
Additionally, they noted, the Junior Olympic softball game scheduled for Tuesday has been relocated to another park in preparation for the Bronco Regionals opening day.
And, for those who clamour for scores, West Kaua‘i edged LBL on Wednesday, 4-3, with LBL taking the Friday matchup, 6-4 behind a 2-RBI single from Kent Nuivo.
