LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Police Activities League (KPAL) flag football season is rapidly winding down as only two more weekends remain on the schedule following their Saturday games.
Playing at the North Vidinha fields, KPAL coordinator Mark Ozaki said this weekend’s games on Saturday, July 16 will be played at Hanapepe Stadium.
That will be followed by the Grand Finale on Saturday, July 23 at the North Vidinha fields with the opening ceremony scheduled for 8 a.m. followed by a day of entertainment and rides for keiki starting at 9 a.m.
Ozaki noted that due to the response of this year’s flag football program, KPAL is looking at the possibility of adding another division to their existing three-division lineup for next year’s program.
Approximately 850 of Kaua‘i’s youngsters aged from 4 through 12 years old are involved in the three divisions, Ozaki noting that this includes cheerleaders that are an integral part of the program.
The Cubs division encompasses keiki from 4 to 6 years old with the Bobcat division pulling in youngsters from 7 to 9 years old. The Wildcats has youth from 10 to 12 years old participating.
Despite the season winding down, football is far from over as the flag foot-ball season will be followed by the Pop Warner tackle football season that opens shortly after school begins.
