The Lihu‘e All Star team advanced to the semifinals in the State Mustang Regional Tournament in Hilo on July 4, defeating the Maui All Star team 5-2. But the squad was eliminated from the tournament yesterday.
The pitching team of Jensen Koga and Kellen Aquino held the Maui team to just three hits during six innings of play, with Aquino logging the win.
After a scoreless first inning, Lihu‘e scored one in the top of the second on a bunt by Pono Tokioka that drove in Lucas Gushikuma with two out. Lihu‘e added another run in the top of the third, when Aquino, who walked, scored on a passed ball. Maui tied the score in the bottom of the third, on three singles. Aquino took the mound in the fourth inning and held Maui scoreless through the rest of the game. Lihu‘e added one run in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Michael Curnan scored twice, in the fourth and sixth innings, both on sacrifice bunts by Lucas Gushikuma. Kellen Aquino doubled in the fifth and then scored on a passed ball. Koga and Aquino each logged four strikeouts against the Maui squad.

After suffering a disappointing loss to the Aiea All Stars on the first day of the 2005 Hawai‘i Regional Mustang Tournament, the Lihu‘e All-Stars came back today with a thundering win over the Kona All-Star team, 14-4.
The ten-run rule came into effect in the bottom of the fifth inning, as the Lihu‘e team scored the final run off of a sacrifice ground out by Cody Takasaki. In the opener on Saturday, Aiea defeated Lihue 6-1. Today’s game began with one Kona run unanswered in the first inning, and three more in the top of the second. Lihu‘e scored one in the bottom of the second and four each in the third and fourth innings.
