Cirilo Ramento
Cirilo Sagucio Ramento, formerly of Hanama’ulu, died June 12, 2005, at the age of 98 in his hometown of Cadcadir, Claveria, Cagayan, Philippines.
Born on June 6, 1907, in Lanao, Bangui Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was a retired employee from Lihue Plantation.
Preceded in death by his parents, Jose Ramento and Juana Sagucio Ramento; sisters Donata R. Respicio, Leona R. Nieto and Marcelo R. Ravelo; brother: Arcadio S. Ramento; sons: Ilustre and Ludivico Ramento, he is survived by his wife: Pacita Balaan Ramento of Hanama’ulu; son: Romeo (Criselda) Ramento of Kalihiwai Valley; daughter: Connie (Inocencio “Joe”) Alcaraz of Hanama’ulu; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and relatives in the Philippines and Hawai’i.

Beatrice I. Donohugh passed away unexpectedly on May 23, 2005. Please join Bea’s family and friends for a memorial service on Saturday, June 25, at the Hyatt Regency Resort and Spa from 4 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. on the Regency Club Lawn. The eulogy will be shared at 5:15 p.m.

Derek Tatsumi Asari of Honolulu, died at Kuakini Medical Center on June 19, 2005, after a short illness.
Born Jan. 17, 1954, he is survived by his parents, Tatsuo and Laura Asari of Kaua’i and sister, Cathy (Bruce) Wada of Everett, Wash.

Mary Ann Mele Wong Soong
Mary Ann Mele Wong Soong of Kapa’a, died Sunday, June 12, in Mapleton, Utah, at the age of 94.
Born Nov. 23, 1910, in Hanalei, to Wong Chung and Mary Kananimauloa Kelekoma, she married Ki On Soong on April 8, 1933. Together they served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hong Kong from April 1966 to October 1968. Mary Ann retired as a clerk of the State of Hawaii Office of Workmen’s Compensation.
“Aunty Mary,” as she was commonly known to many, once served as the librarian at Coco Palms Resort Hotel where she wrote “The Legend of Puukaninui, The Polokanui of Coco Palms.” The story was the inspiration for the popular Hawaiian song, “Kamalani.”
Mary Ann is survived by two sisters: Sarah K. Sheldon of Anahola, and Elsie W. Bruce of Pacifica, Calif. She is also survived by three children: Melvin K. (Barbara) Soong of Kailua, O’ahu, Clarence L. (Mary) Soong of Manasses, Va., and Momilani S. (Julian) Kau of Mapleton, Utah; seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 27, at 11 a.m. in the Kapaa Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. There will be a visitation held at the chapel from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will take place in Hanapepe at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery. Aloha attire is suggested. Kauai Mortuary will be handling funeral arrangements.
Francisco Ramos
Francisco Ramos of Kaumakani died June 4, 205, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 88.
Born Oct. 1, 1916, in the Philippines, he was an equipment operator.
He is survived by his wife: Avelyn Frando Ramos of the Philippines; one son: Frank Ramos, Jr. of California; one brother: Flormante Ramos of Honolulu; caregivers: Mercy and Junior and Gomer and Aida; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Family and friends may call on Saturday, June 25, at Borthwick Mortuary from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. where services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. burial to follow at Hanapepe Public Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
John Silva Sr.
John Silva Sr. of Kalaheo, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on June 18, 2005, at the age of 96.
Born in Makaweli on May 29, 1909, he was a service technician with Gay & Robinson.
He is survived by his wife: Ethel; five sons: John Jr. (Irene) Silva of Mililani, O’ahu, Walter (Jasmine) Silva of Kapa’a, Franklin (Bernie) Silva of Makaweli, Roy (Wene) Silva of Kamuela, Hawai’i, and Richard (Laurena “Tito”) Silva of Kalaheo; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great grandchildren.
Private services will be held. Friends may join the family at the scattering of ashes at the Pakala Landing also known as the Itakura Landing.

Alfredo Gaspar
Alfredo Manandio Gaspar of Lihu’e, died June 17, 2005, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 69.
Born Feb. 25, 1936, on Kaua’i, he was an engineer.
Preceded in death by son Glenn Gaspar, he is survived by his wife: Linda Gaspar; eight children: Gary (Renette) Gaspar, Gregg (Lisa) Gaspar, Guy Gaspar, Grant (Pauline) Gaspar, Leann (Santiago Leones, Jr.) Fu, Eric (Jue-Lan) Fu, Russell (Tracy) Fu, Ryan Fu (Kaiki) ; two brothers: George and Raymond Gaspar; three sisters: Yolanda, Charmaine and Madeline; one daughter-in-law: Rhonda Gaspar; ex-wife: Mary Ellen Gaspar; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, June 27, from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, where Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. by Father John. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Roxanne Puanani Arruda of Kekaha, died June 19, 2005, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 42.
Born March 29, 1963, in Waimea, she was a teachers’ aide with Waimea Canyon School.
She is survived by ex-husband, Fred (Tracy) Aki Jr.; two sons: Fred Miller Aki and Clarence Hokukea André Aki, both of Kekaha; parents Joaquin N. Arruda, Jr. and Leilani J. Arruda; three brothers: Joaquin Nicholas Arruda III, Richard (Sandra) Arruda, and David Arruda (Jessica); one sister, Sandra (Sam) Vegas of Maui; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, June 24, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Kings Chapel in ‘Ele’ele, where services will be held at 4 p.m. officiated by Pastor Daniel Bracken. Burial to follow at Kekaha Public Cemetery.
