Furfaro party change
The announcement of Mr. Fufaro’s return to the Democratic Party has generated a concerned perspective from a Princeville resident referencing his current employment with the Princeville Corporation as a conflict of interest.
Ah, I wish that it were true that Kauaians could serve a public office without the need to earn a living, but few enjoy such luxury.

Recycling good
I frequently visit your lovely island and am very careful about taking out what I bring in. I try to recycle when I can. I am happy to have discovered you have six recycling centers.
I body surf a lot and Kealia beach is my favorite. However, I am dismayed how trashed the beach is with burnt debris, broken glass, trash, etc. I even saw some people building a huge bon-fire.
Also, last week. when speaking with a local resident, his dog dug up some broken glass in the sand. We both commented that someone could get cut, especially a child.
On a positive note, I am appreciative of local residents who are trying to clean up the litter left by uncaring people.
I even noticed some tourists taking out disposable bottles, etc. This was a highlight of my vacation! Especially, the father who told his boys to leave the natural driftwood on the beach where it belongs.
I hope Kaua’i gets more recycling bins strategically placed throughout the island to encourage folks to recycle as well as not litter. I also hope people don’t drive thier four-wheel vehicles on the beaches. The parking lots are there for a reason.

I was surprised and pleased to see the article on the front page of The Garden Island written about GMO corn growing near Kukui Grove. Publishing articles on controversial topics is what a newspaper is all about. You play a major role in providing your readership with the information that contributes to making informed decisions on critical local issues. So thank you.
From the information gathering I have done regarding GMO’s, I feel very strongly that until more research is done on the long term effects GMO”s have on the humans, animals, and plants in our environment, GMO plants should only be tested in a laboratory environment where there is no risk of migrating pollens, seeds, etc.
