The Waimea Bluejays’ Mustang team might have ended the season with a loss to the Hanapepe Cubs, but the defeat was overcome by the unexpected celebrity visit from Ron Reagan (son of President Ronald Reagan) and his wife.
Mr. and Mrs. Reagan cheered for the Bluejays as they played an exciting game against the Cubs. Ron even made an attempt to catch a foul ball while commenting, “look no hands!” The Hanapepe Cubs topped the game with a score of 6-2 over the Waimea Bluejays.
Post Game fun included the traditional Bluejays send off to the graduating players, Tresten Nakashima, Cole Moore, Ulu Matagiese, Kai Ortiz,
Nahe Manoi-Resinto, Wyatt Taniguchi, Nalu Silva and Brian Ceballos. After the traditional send off, came the dousing of the coaches. The children had a blast chasing their coaches around the field with water bottles, tackling them and holding them down so everyone could get their share of water on them. This is what it’s all about, although the Bluejays lost on the scoreboard, they won in spirit! Team coaches are Jon Nakashima, Donald Ouderkirk, Dan Hirata, Paris Resinto & Roger Taniguchi. Additional players that still have one more season with the Mustang team include Dion Duarte-Gray, David Allan Joyce, Damien Kelekoma, Bryana Resquer-Yorkman and our honorary bat boy Bradley Ceballos.
Thank you to our Westside community and supporters for a great season.
