Alvin Okada and Britney Choy won individual honors in the OIA Boys and Girls Golf Championships that concluded Monday at the Turle Bay Resort’s George Fazio Course. Both Okada and Choy won this event in 2004.
Okada shot an even par 72 in the final round for a two-day total of 138 (6 under par) to beat out Pearl City’s Michael Sato (73-71-144) who finished second, and Kaimuki’s Chan Kim who finished third (76-71-147). The OIA Championship first round was held at the Makaha Resort Golf Club on Apr. 25.
The low round of the day on the George Fazio Course went to Kahuku’s Isaac Jaffurs who fired a two-under 70. The top 45 eligible boys advance to the state championships later this month at the Wailea Emeral Course on Maui.
Britney Choy of Leilehua shot a final round one-over-par 73 for a two-day total 145 to win individual honors in the OIA Girls Division by seven shots. Jackie Hilea of Moanalua finished in second place shooting 72 for a 152 total. Third place went to Moanalua’s Iris Ocariza who shot a 74 for a 155 two-day total. Thhe top 32 eligible girls will advance to the state championships later this month at the Dunes at Maui Lani on Maui.
In the Boys Team Division, Pearl City High School shot 304 to win the OIA title with a two-day team total of 602. Team members include Sean Abreu (75-76), CJ Balboa (76-80), Kevin Katano, Brandon Myers (766-75), and Michael Sato (71-73).
Roosevelt High School defended its title as OIA Girls Team Division Champions with a two-day total of 501. The victorious Rough Rider team includes Malia Jarvis, H. Manini-Hewlen (78-81), Natalie Nakamine (80-85), and Nancy Shon (94-83).
The two-day competition was held at both Turtle Bay Resort’s Fazio Course and Makaha Resort Club.
Turtle Bay Resort is located on O‘ahu’s North Shore and plays host to many amateur, junior, and professional events throughout the year including the upcoming U.S. Open Local qualifiers.
