WAIMEA — Third times a charm and so was the first and second seasons under head coach Hank Ibia Jr., whose Kaua‘squad dominated i the 2005 KIF baseball and clinched the title with a first game win, 6-1, against the Menehune yesterday.
Two seniors manned the mound for Kaua‘i, as Kirby Yates was magificent once again with the first game victory. But in the second game, the Red Raiders picked up their first loss of the season, as the Menehune edged Kaua‘i, 4-3.
The big hit came from the bat of Bradley Frasco, who ripped a 2-RBI double, which tied the contest up at three a piece in the sixth inning.
Menehune hurler Kellen Naka‘ahiki grabbed the victory and was able to quiet the Kaua‘i hit attack.
On the other side, Shannon Oketani got the loss, but dueled with Naka‘ahiki throughout the contest.
The Red Raiders finished off their 2005 season with an 11-1 record. Meanwhile, the Warriors will battle the Menehune on Wednesday in the KIF baseball season finale at 2:45 p.m.
