The Garden Island welcomes Scott Wamsley
- Scott Wamsley recently joined the Garden Island as account executive for Essential Kauai, a Garden Island Publication that comes out twice a month.
Wamsley comes to the Garden Island with a strong background in publishing, marketing and high-tech design experience.
Wamsley founded his own company Wamzle Creative, LLC, in 1997.
Prior to that, as creative director, he designed the website for CBS MarketWatch, and while still a college student did a stint as an intern at Wired Magazine.
He has lived on Kauai fulltime for the past 18 months.

- Tomorrow, Monday, May 2, the Pride of Aloha, 850 feet long, calls on Nawiliwili Harbor, arriving at 7 a.m. and remaining over-night, leaving Tuesday, May 3, at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, the Norwegian Wind, 754 feet long, is scheduled to arrive 8 a.m. and leave the same day at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, the Tahitian Princess 592 feet long, will arrive 8 a.m.and leave the same day at 6 p.m.
Realtors hold education session Monday
- The Kauai Board of Realtors and the County of Kauai will be holding an educational question and answer session Monday from 5 p.m. till 7 p.m. at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall top discuss the large capacity cesspool ban known and referred to as the EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Act.
Guest speaker Laura Bose will explain how owners and business can comply with the act that took effect April 5.
Failure to comply with the act could result in enforcement by the agency and the imposition of substantial penalties.
Community Express Loan Workshop
- The U.S. Small Business Association (SBA) has developed a loan program to provide financial assistance and technical and management assistance to underserved segments of Hawaii’s small business community which includes women, minorities and veterans.
The program will be held May 10, from 10 a.m. till noon at the Kauai Community College, Technology Building, Room 114.
According to contact person Clara Kaneshiro, the workshop will take individuals through a step-by-step process on how to complete the Community Express loan application.
Innovative Bank, Business Loan Express, Central Pacific Bank and Bank of Hawaii are offering this loan program.
The presenters will include, Kim Hite, SBA business development specialist; Jim Mayfield, Bank of Hawaii business banking manager; Pat Matsumoto, Central Pacific Bank business banking officer; and Wanda Costa, Pacific Gateway Center technical assistance provider.

State urges nurses and acupuncturists to renew professional licenses online
- The Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA), announced more than 18,000 Hawaii nurses and acupuncturists may now renew their licenses online at www.ehawaii.gov/pvlrenew.
According to a DCCA news release, the program is part of the highly successful effort within DCCA to implement efficient online filing procedures for businesses and professionals.
Nurses and acupuncturists are required by law to renew their licenses every two years.
During the last renewal cycle in 2003, more than 5,300 nurses (about 36 percent) renewed their licenses online.
That was more than twice the number renewed online in 2001.
