Masayuki Higashi
Masayuki Higashi of Lihu‘e passed away on April 18, 2005, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, at the age of 87.
He was born in Hanama‘ulu on Sept. 24, 1917, and retired as a carpenter with the Lihue Plantation.
He is survived by his wife, Tamie Maeda Higashi of Lihu‘e; two daughters: Shirley (David) Iha of Lihu‘e, and Elaine (Spencer) Tada of La Habra, Calif.; one son, Michael (Katie) Higashi of North Hollywood Calif.; four brothers: Yukio “York” (Olinda) Higashi, David Higashi, Harry (Pat) Higashi, and Richard (Misa) Higashi, all of Kaua‘i, two sisters: Peggy (Leslie) Yaka of Kaua‘i and Edith Higashi of Los Angeles; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, April 28, from 10 a.m., at the Lihue Hongwanji Mission. Services will follow at 11 a.m.
The family suggests casual attire, and requests that flowers be omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
Eugenio Soto
Eugenio Henry Soto of Kalaheo died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on April 21, 2005, at the age of 77.
Born in Koloa on Nov. 14, 1927, he was a retired Auto Mechanic with Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) and an active member of the Koloa Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Dolores Soto; two sons, Bruce (Ronda) Soto of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii and Gary (Faith) Soto of Kalaheo; three daughters, Trudy (Malcolm “Manny”) Azeka of Hanapepe, Kelly (Ron) Rockstrom of Fallon, Nev. and Peggy (Tom) Bray of Las Vegas, Nev.; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Virginia Ortiz of ‘Oma‘o, Emma Freitas of Kalaheo and Marie “Minnie” Rivera of Hayward, Calif.; three sisters-in-law, Rose Soto, Hazel Soto and Minnie Soto, all of Kaua‘i.
Friends may visit with the family from 1-2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo; mass officiated by Father Nap will begin at 3 p.m.
Casual attire is suggested.

Estrellita C. ‘Ester’ Patricio
Estrellita C. “Ester” Patricio of Kekaha died at the Queen’s Medical Center on April 15, 2005, at the age of 63.
Born in Makinabang, Baliuag, Bulacan, Philippines on July 10, 1941, she was a retired custodian for the County of Kauai (Waimea Neighborhood Center).
Preceded in death by her husband, Faustino “Pat” Patricio Sr.; her parents, Dominador Cruz and Alejandra Fernando Cruz and stepson, Faustino “Paos” Patricio Jr., she is survived by sons: Noel (Joni) Patricio of Lawai and Nelson Patricio of Georgia; stepsons, Fred (Julie) Patricio of Kekaha and Danny (Carmelita) Patricio of Kaumakani; stepdaughter, Amorita Jones of O‘ahu and sister, Lucila Macapagal of the Philippines; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation with her family will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery with services and burial to follow. Casual attire is suggested.
