PRINCEVILLE — Winning has become a staple for Kaua‘i High School girls’ tennis star Alex Sirios. The Red Raider senior hasn’t lost a match in her entire high school career.
Her latest victim,Kula junior Ariel Carlson, had no idea what she was getting into yesterday against Sirois, who has her eyes set on states. Sirois bounced Carlson, 6-2, 6-2 at the Hanalei Bay Resort Tennis Courts.
“I really didn’t play well today, but I still got the win,” Sirois said.
Last season, Sirois missed the state tennis championships because of mock trial, which is just one of her many extra-curricular activities, like choir and piano, just to name a few. She also carries an extremely hefty grade point average, which could make her one of the valedictorians for Kaua‘i High School, all while balancing a high school social life. The Red Raider mock trial squad took home the top prize at states recently and are now heading to nationals at the end of the month.
On the court though, Sirois is rarely rattled and when she runs into some trouble, she bounces back as fast as one of her serves.
Sirois will be taking her tennis game, great attitude, and work ethic over to Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut in the fall.
She hasn’t really figured out what she wants to do yet on the academics side, but she’s excited to be at one of the best schools in country. The born and raised Koloa girl will miss her friends, family, and coaches, but the beautiful Kaua‘i weather will probably be the thing she misses the most, while in the cold vaults of Connecticut.
