Kaua‘i High School’s Cory French was two strokes back of front nine leader Michael Garcia, but came back with a two-under- par 34 in the back nine to finish with a two-under-par 70 as Kaua‘i High wrapped up another victory in gusty winds at the Princeville Golf Course, Saturday.
French, who held par with Brandon Hirota after nine holes, topped the Kaua‘i field and led the Red Raider boys’ team effort as Kaua‘i’s team tallied 305 points over Waimea’s 330, and Kapa‘a’s 359.
Garcia finished the back nine with a 43 to contribute 77 towards the Red Raider team effort.
Layne Morita (39-39-78), and Bret Netzer (40-40-80) made up the Red Raider team total.
Grant Kagawa finished with a 79 (42-37) to lead the Menehune effort while Travis Toguchi (38-43-81) held his front-nine lead to hold off a strong Jet Levinthol (44-38-82) by a stroke to lead Kapa‘a.
Waimea’s boys team scores included Kagawa, Grant Paiste (44-44-88), Markland Soliva (44-39-83), and Noel Torres (41-39-80).
Kula School’s Sean Ogawa finished with a three-under-par 69 to card the best score of the day in individual play, his three-stroke advantage coming on the front nine.
Shelcie Takenouchi came up with a one-under-par 35 on the back nine to finish with a 76 (41-35) to lead the girls in individual play while Miki Ueoka’s 80 (43-37) led the Kaua‘i High School girls’ team effort.
Mary Akutagawa (45-44-89) and Terra Bell (44-40-84) joined Ueoka to make up the Kaua‘i girls’ team score.
KIF Golf moves to the Po‘ipu Bay Golf Course this Saturday, Apr. 9 with a scheduled tee time of 11:30 a.m.
