The Waimea High School boys and the Kaua‘i High School girls finished fourth place in their respective divisions at the Satoki Yamamoto Invitational held Saturday at the Maui War Memorial Stadium.
The Menehune girls team finished ninth place in the meet along with the Red Raider men.
The Red Raider ladies were edged out of third place by El Toro, a California team, by two points, 64-62, while the Menehune were battling the Baldwin Bears for third place, 63-60 points.
Tiffany Ikeda-Simao topped the Girls Long Jump with a leap of 16’4″ almost a foot longer than second place finisher Olivia Ripple of Seabury Hall.
Ikeda-Simao also placed second in the Girls 100M Dash on a 12.88 sprint compared with top finisher June Ann Lusk of Baldwin’s 12.55.
Ikeda-Simao also picked up a second finish in the Girls 200M Dash with a 26:58, being edged out of the top slot by .11 second.
Erin Fabro finished third in the Girls Discus event on a throw of 112′ 3,” just four inches short of the leaders, Nete Tolutau of Baldwin and Summer Pagan of Maui High, both leaders tying at throws of 112′ 7.” Fabro also finished fifth in the Girls Shot Put on 29’3-1/2.”
Savannah Rollins of Kaua‘i placed fifth in the Girls High Jump with a 4’6″ jump, and added that with a fifth finish in the Girls 400M Dash on a 1:08.2 run.
Kaua‘i distance runner Chelsea Smith-Wishard finished third in the Girls 1500M Run, being bested by almost 11 seconds by a pair from High-land, Alyssa Craft and Caitlin Fitzgerald, Smith Wishard stopping the clock at 5:08.0, and Craft taking the event at 4:54.1.
Smith-Wishard also added a third finish in the Girls 800M Run on her 2:33.4 performance.
Ashley Johnston of Kaua‘i finished third in the Girls 300M Low Hurdles on 50.98, the top runner blasting the course at 46.75 earned by El Toro’s Elizabeth Bastos.
Robyn Arrington topped the Girls Triple Jump by eking out Trisha Yamamoto of Maui by over five inches, Arrington settling at 32′ 11-1/2.”
Rachel Martin rounded out the Menehune girls’ performances with a fifth finish in the Girls 3000M Run, Martin stopping the clock at 12:25.5.
On the boys’ side, Waimea’s Kenny Estes edged out Maui’s Gilbert Fune by .04 second to take top honors in the Boys 100M Dash with team mate Eric Oroc finishing fourth at 11.65. Estes stopped the clock at 11.16 in the event.
Estes also topped the Boys 200M Dash on his 22.74 dash with Oroc settling in third at 23.61, separated by Maui’s Fune.
Waimea distance runner Scott Martin was two seconds shy of top honors in the Boys 1500M Run on his 4:26.1 finish, being bested by El Toro runner Chris McDonald who stopped the clock at 4:24.8.
Brother Nathan finished the event fourth on his run of 4:32.9.
The Martins also finished third and fourth in the Boys 3000M Run with Scott topping Nathan, 9:59.9 to Nathan 10:03.9.
Matthew Uso finished fifth in the Boys Shot Put at 44’7-1/2.”
Kaua‘i’s Lance Okasaki recovered to finish fourth in the Boys 110M High Hurdles on a 16.44 run, the best time turned in by Maui’s Taylor Burrill at 15.15. Okasaki also finished third in the Boys 300M Int. Hurdles with a 43.02.
Kevin Cadiente finished fifth in the Boys Long Jump on a leap of 18’6,” the leader, Shaka Baston of Maui finishing at 20’11-3/4.”
The Kaua‘i girls team finished third in the Girls 1600M Relay on a 4:23.6, being edged out by Baldwin by just .6 second while the Menehune boys settled in third in the Boys 1600M Relay, their third place being handed to them in the same .6 second margin by Maui.
