A new and exciting era is brewing up for the Kaua‘i Cowboys semi-pro football squad, led by new owner and president Drew Kamana‘o.
The former Roosevelt football standout is in his third year with Kaua‘i’s only semi-pro football team. Last season, the Cowboys, led by Kamana‘o at quarterback, took the runner-up spot behind the Maui Stars.
However, according to Kamana‘o, his reign will lead to a big change in the organization.
“I’ve always wanted to own my own football team and one of good friends helped me out financially and made it happen for me, so I’m stoked about it,” Kamana‘o said.
To be a part of the team, just bring your own pads and equipment. Team members must also be at least 18 years of age. Practices are held at the Kapa‘a Ballpark by the Armory, starting at 7 p.m., every Monday and Thursday.
“I’m trying to change the program around and if you’re a former football player out there, you should come out and be a part of team, because it’s going to be an exciting year,” Kamana‘o said.
The Cowboys’ first game this season will be against the Hilo Storm on April 30. For more information about the Kaua‘i Cowboys, contact Kamana‘o at 652-8513.
