Governor Linda Lingle has released $100,700 in state funds for improvements to Kaumuali‘i Highway in the Hanapepe area. The improvements include installing metal guard-rails and posts, constructing concrete end posts, repairing cracks on the Hanapepe and Mana bridges, and installing new signage.
The state Department of Transportation plans to use the funds to install a guardrail along the slope on the north-western corner of Hanapepe Bridge, where none currently exists.
Improvements to four bridges are also in the works, including repairing damage that ranges from hairline cracks to exposed rebar.
The total estimated project cost is $503,500, with $402,800 covered by federal funds.
The project is scheduled to begin in August and should be completed by the end of this year.
