Members of the nominating committee of the Hawaii Supreme Court are seeking non-lawyer, community representatives to serve as members of the Disciplinary Board for three-year terms beginning July 1.
Board membership is voluntary and uncompensated. Members of the board investigate allegations of attorney misconduct and, upon sufficient evidence, take necessary and appropriate disciplinary action.
Functions of the board are funded entirely by the annual licensing fees paid by the state’s practicing attorneys.
Qualifications for board membership are: sound judgment; ability to be just and impartial in analyzing complaints and recommending discipline; and diligence in learning about the methods and organization of the board. Members must commit to attending monthly meetings, on O‘ahu.
