After being together for the first time in awhile at their Irons Brothers Pine Trees Classic in late February, the Princeville residents might meet in the Quiksilver Pro contest in Australia.
Following five days of nonstop competition action surfers have been greeted with yet another day of excellent conditions at Snapper. The strong northerly wind that helped competitors soar in the Quiksilver World Airshow Series yesterday has abated overnight, with a fresh offshore change moving in from the south.
Remaining men’s round two heats were completed in idyllic threefour foot waves this morning, before the women’s Roxy Pro quarter-finals heats hit the water. Renowned Kauaian tuberider Bruce Irons locked into the longest barrell of the event thus far, opening his heat against Aussie Lee Winkler with a seven second tube ride and scoring an 8.83.
24-year-old Bruce is now just one heat win away from what could be one of the clashes of the tournament — a showdown against his own brother, reigning three time world champion Andy.
Bruce will first need to overcome explosive Californian Taylor Knox in round three expected to run in awesome waves tomorrow, while Andy will face-off against local wildcard Luke Munro in a rematch of the pair’s 2004 round three encounter.
