Employer orientation workshops set
Leaders in the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations present free workshops for employers on Thursday, March 24, providing general information on labor laws and department services. The first session is 8:30 a.m. to noon, and the second session is scheduled from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Both sessions will be held in the Lihue State Building second-floor conference rooms. Sessions will cover workers’ compensation, temporary disability insurance, prepaid health care, job placement services, unemployment insurance, safety and health, and payment of wages and child-labor laws. Wakeman joins ProSERVICE Hawai‘i
Officials at ProSERVICE Hawai‘i announced the appointment of Don Wakeman as president and chief executive officer of the human-services benefits company. Over 4,000 client employees enjoy the company’s comprehensive human-services benefits on the Big Island, Maui, Kaua‘i and O‘ahu, a company spokesperson said. With the growth of ProSERVICE Hawai’i, new human-resources professionals are being added to the staff at all levels, to meet company requirements, the spokesperson said.
Workplace smoking is seminar topic
Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce leaders offer a free workshop on how having a smoke-free workplace will help business owners. The event is this Tuesday, March 8, with registration at 9:30 a.m. and the seminar from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by a buffet lunch from noon to 1:30 p.m., at the Aloha Beach Resort-Kauai. Dr. Richard Sargent, chairman of quality assurance at St. Peter’s Community Hospital, conducts the seminar, which will explain to participants how a smoke-free workplace will lead to fewer sick days, increased productivity, and create a healthier environment for all employees. Oceanic customers can win $1,000 a day
Simply by playing interactive game shows on GSN (Game Show Network, digital channel 438), Oceanic Time Warner Cable subscribers on Kaua‘i may win $1,000 a day between now and Saturday, March 19. Viewers will be entered to win every time they play an interactive game show on GSN, the Network for Games, and will also be eligible to win a grand prize of a Sony TV valued at $1,780.
Chamber coffee hour set for March 9
Board members of the Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce will be present to answer questions about the Chamber during a coffee hour set for this Wednesday, March 9, from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Gaylord’s Restaurant at Kilohana in Puhi. Coffee and pastries will be served, and people who become members at this function will have the one-time administrative fee of $30 waived. Those attending will be able to get information on Chamber functions and services, including Business After Hours functions, the new Chamber health-insurance plan, and more.
