Though no one could watch it on Kaua‘i, the Blossoming Lotus restaurant in Kapa‘a was featured on an installment of the country’s first vegan TV series, “VEG TV.”
The show’s producers sent a film crew to the grand opening of the popular restaurant. “VEG TV” launched in April of last year.
Best-selling cookbook author and syndicated columnist Marie Oser and nationally syndicated TV journalist Jane Velez-Mitchell traveled to Kaua‘i.
In the episode that aired last week, the “VEG TV” crew was on hand to help celebrate the grand opening of the Blossoming Lotus, a five-star restaurant whose chefs and owners have raised the bar with exceptional vegan world-fusion cuisine, according to the show’s producers.
Oser visited with Colin Patterson, a classically trained chef who prepares gourmet dishes, and talked about the innovative menu and uncommon dining experience.
Restaurant owners hosted an evening rich with island culture, and hundreds of guests enjoyed the culinary creations in a casual, hip setting of world music and art.
“VEG TV” hosts also chatted with founders Mark Reinfeld and Gabriel Zingaro, and author and entrepreneur Bo Rinaldi, who recount the made-for-Hollywood story of a small cafe, open only three days, when discovered by a traveler who took the fledgling operation under his wing.
Also while on Kaua‘i, “VEG TV” correspondent Michelle Celestino visited an organic fruit and vegetable farm with gorgeous vistas, and an historic coffee plantation.
Dr. Jane Goodall was the show’s special guest. The renowned primatologist talked about why she chose a vegetarian lifestyle more than 30 years ago.
“VEG TV” is sponsored by Pleasant Holidays, One Degree.com, Dole Nutrition Institute, Melissa’s World Variety Pro-duce, Tribest Corporation, Kitchen’s Best Manufacturing, Chambers Family Farms, truCycle, Nutru Corporation, and Vegetarian Times.
