KIF champion Kaua‘i High School finished off its 2005 season strong, with two straight state tournament victories, en route to the consolation title of the HHSAA/Hawaiian Airlines State Boys Basket-ball Championships at the Neal Blaisdell Arena.
The Red Raiders dominated the BIIF’s Waiakea yesterday with a 56-46 win.
Junior shooting guard Josh Bradbury was on target with his best performance of the season, notching 20 points.
Senior center Futi Tavana followed Bradbury with 19 points, as senior point guard Jeremy Manuel and senior forward Kekoa Crowell conributed with eight and five points each.
Kaua‘i, who fell to Kalaheo, 66-53 in first round action, doubled up on KamehamehaMaui in the consolation bracket on Thursday and followed that performance up with yesterday’s win over Waiakea for the consolation title.
The Red Raiders gradute 10 seniors: Futi Tavana, Jeremy Manuel, Kekoa Crowell, Garrett Sakimae, Brandon Ballesteros, Matt Palaroan, Lance Okasaki, Kevin Cadiente, and Kevin Downing.
“This team has amazed me this season with their play on and off the court and I’m just so proud of them,” Kaua‘i head coach Brandon Fujita said.
But what really made the Red Raider head man even more impressed was the way they conducted themselves in the presence of this two little angels.
“I really can’t express enough how gratifying it is to have coached these boys, as they have displayed so much respect and with my daughters as managers, they have treated them with so much respect and that means so much to me,” Fujita said.
Kaua‘i finished its 2005 campaign with a 12-4 record, which included an impressive 8-0 mark in the KIF.
