The National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) is proud to honor certified athletic trainers (ATCs) during March — National Athletic Training Month.
Here on Kaua‘i at our three public high schools, we have three great individuals who do a tremendous job with our KIF athletes.
Kaua‘i High School’s Keith Burgess is a Red Raider at heart. He graduated from Kaua‘i High School and came back to his alma mater to showcase his talents as an athletic trainer. Burgess, who recently got married, has a unique connection with the athletes.
Out at Kapa‘a High School, Sam Henriques holds down the post for the Warriors. Sam, who recently had a baby, has been a dedicated athletic trainer for Kapa‘a and is always willing to put in the extra time for the athletes. Sam’s husband, Manny, is also at most of the KIF games, photographing our athletes in action.
Meanwhile, out on the westside in Menehune land, Brandi Hori is Waimea High School’s athletic trainer.
Hori, a standout athlete for the Menehune, recently had a baby and is the newbie amongst the group of KIF athletic trainers.
Brandi displays great knowledge and compassion in her craft. ATCs are the medical experts who help, prevent, assess, treat, and rehabilitate injuries that result from physical activity. Participating athletics is good for you, but it can also result in injury. National Athletic Training Month was established to advise active people on how to prevent injuries at work and at play.
This year’s theme is Rehabilitation: Accelerated Return to Activity. For more information about certified athletic training, visit www.NATA.org.
Certified athletic trainers are unique health care providers. ATCs can be found in a variety of work settings, including secondary schools, colleges, and universities, professional sports, sports medicine clinics, hospitals, and physicians’ offices, the military, occupational workplaces, performing arts and youth sports and recreation.
The National Athletic Trainers’ Association represents and supports the more than 30,000 members of the athletic training profession through education and research.
