The happy-go-lucky Kaua‘i senior pitcher, Sherri Gebauer earned KIF softball player of the year accolades for the 2005 season.
Gebauer, who possesses a nasty fastball is all business when she’s on the mound. Gebauer was also chosen as the top pitcher in the KIF.
The Red Raider senior will also be a force to be reckoned with at the next level.
Kaua‘i head coach Jacque Inouye, who put her heart and soul into the girls, earned KIF coach of the year honors.
The KIF champion Red Raider squad placed eight players on the elite team. Seniors dominated the KIF softball all-star list, with just three underclasswomen on the squad.
Teammate and cousin Ulu Kelekoma, a senior picked up all-star catcher honors. However, Waimea’s Kodi Oyama was a close second in the ballot. Both catchers had outstanding seasons.
At first base, Kaua‘i senior Ashley Nonaka got the nod, mostly because of her hefty bat and steady glove at the first base bag.
Waimea senior Melissa Moreno, a strong candidate for college softball because of her versatility, was chosen as the KIF’s best at second base.
Daelene Perreira of Waimea, a senior, took home the third base all-star honor.
At shortstop, the market was open, as Kaua‘i senior, Jenna Mercado nailed down the tough position as an all-star.
It was all red in the outfield, with senior Ashley Silva, freshman Shana Tafiti, and junior Robin Jose taking the honors for all-star distinction.
Kaua‘i junior Darcie Allianic grabbed the utility all-star position.
Allianic, nicknamed the “Bulldog” for staring down players in the batter’s box, had a great season backing up ace Gebauer.
